Mandan Lake View is what happens when a working reservoir grows a beauty spot: on the Karjan's western banks near Mandan village, the water spreads between low green hills and small islands, 'tapus', and the view has quietly become the Rajpipla belt's favourite picnic, photo-shoot and camping backdrop. Monsoon and the months after are the show, when the reservoir brims and everything around it runs green.

The experience is endearingly informal: a rough 1–1.5 km approach road off the main route, parking managed by villagers, local boats doing rounds for ₹150–200 a head, and corn roasting on the banks. Pre-wedding shoots stake out the ridgelines; overlanders camp the flats. There is no ticket, no gate and no infrastructure beyond what Mandan village improvises, which is precisely the charm.

It shares its water with the Karjan dam viewpoint a few kilometres north, and stacks with Juna Ghanta falls for the belt's full monsoon loop.

Highlights

  • Hill-ringed reservoir views with island 'tapus'
  • Boat rounds for ₹150–200 and corn on the banks
  • The Rajpipla belt's favourite photo-shoot backdrop
  • Informal camping and overlanding flats

Traveller tips

  • Evenings beat middays, light, breeze and corn stalls all improve
  • Stack with Karjan dam viewpoint and Juna Ghanta falls for the full loop
  • Weekdays give you the tapus almost alone

Safety

  • Reservoir depths drop off fast, no swimming, and life jackets on boats are worth insisting on
  • The approach track punishes low cars; go slow
  • Campers: levels rise with dam operations, pitch well above the waterline
