The Jungle Safari at Ekta Nagar is a modern zoological park laid out over a hillside a few kilometres from the statue, its enclosures terraced across multiple levels connected by walkways and internal shuttles. The collection mixes Indian species, big cats, bears, deer, antelope, with exotics and a strong bird section; the twin walk-through aviaries, among the larger ones in the country, are the consistent highlight for children.

The scale is larger than the gate suggests. Published figures put the park at 375 acres worked across seven levels, climbing from roughly 29 to 180 metres on the Narmada's right bank, with sixteen enclosures and upwards of 186 species of fauna. The two aviaries are geodesic domes covering about 1.5 hectares between them, and are claimed as the largest of their kind anywhere.

This is a zoo experience, not a drive-through safari, set expectations accordingly. The terraced layout means genuine walking with climbs between levels; shuttle carts help with small kids or older visitors. Animals are most active in the first hours after opening and near closing; midday, especially in warm months, is nap time behind glass and shade.

As the second-biggest time commitment on the campus after the statue itself, it fits best on a two-day plan, half a day here without rushing.

Highlights

  • Terraced hillside park minutes from the statue
  • Two large walk-in aviaries
  • Indian big cats, bears and a broad bird collection
  • Shuttle carts between levels

Traveller tips

  • Take the first slot of the day, active animals and cool walking
  • Do aviaries early before school groups arrive
  • Keep it for day two of a SoU trip; it deserves an unhurried half day

Safety

  • Do not feed or provoke animals, strictly enforced
  • The terraced walk is longer than it looks; use shuttles with small children in summer
