The Statue of Unity Complex

The Statue of Unity is 182 metres of Sardar Patel facing the Sardar Sarovar dam, and the precinct built around it at Ekta Nagar is unlike anything else in either district: ticketed, landscaped, shuttle-served, and busy in a way the forests never are.

It rewards planning more than wandering. Most of the gardens are walkable from one another but the road network is a one-way visitor loop, so driving between two neighbours can take four times the distance you would walk. The statue itself wants two to four hours if you go up to the viewing gallery.

The surrounding country is the quieter half. Zarwani falls inside the Shoolpaneshwar sanctuary, Garudeshwar sits on the Narmada with its own temple ghat, and the Khalwani rafting stretch runs when the dam releases.
