Shoolpaneshwar Mahadev carries one of the Narmada valley's more poignant stories: the original ancient shrine, a stop on the river's parikrama circuit for centuries, went under the Sardar Sarovar reservoir as the dam rose, and the deity was ceremonially re-established in a new temple at Gora village on the bank downstream. The current structure is modern; the devotion, the name and the river are the continuity.
The temple gives the sanctuary its name, and its riverside setting keeps the old rhythm: morning and evening aartis, Shravan-month crowds, parikrama pilgrims passing through with their bundles. For visitors doing the Ekta Nagar circuit it pairs naturally with Garudeshwar as a half-day of river devotion, ten minutes apart.
The lore holds that Shiva stood here with his trishul (shoola), hence the name, and Narmada tradition ranks the site among the river's significant tirthas.

History & lore
The original Shoolpaneshwar temple, an ancient tirtha on the Narmada parikrama, was submerged by the Sardar Sarovar reservoir; the deity was re-installed at Gora. Tradition derives the name from Shiva bearing his trishul here, Shoolpani, the trident-holder.
